Caterpillars

We have been watching our caterpillars grow in the jar since we got them. They have eaten all the food that came with them. They got much longer and fatter.
Yesterday morning we were surprised to see the caterpillars had formed cocoons and were hanging from the top of the jar. Teacher transferred them into the Butterfly Garden and now we are watching for them to come out of the cocoon as butterflies.

Spring Walk - Friday, 4th March

We went for a nature walk on Friday to observe all the signs of Spring. We saw two birds' nests just beside our school and the birds were busy flting back and forth to the nests. We spotted one bird with a twig in its beak flying back to its nest. We noticed how birds like to build their nests up high for better protection from both humans and animals. We also saw that most of the trees had buds on them by now whereas a few weeks ago there were no buds to be seen around our school!! We saw some lovely daffodils and some snowdrops also. Then we all closed our eyes for a minute and just listened to all the sounds we could hear. It was lovely to hear the birds singing.

Our Garden

We planted some lettuce and radish seeds today in our garden outside our classroom. Our daffodils are dying back but they were lovely. We planted the daffodil bulbs before Christmas.
We watered the seeds with our watering can as the soil was very dry. We will have lettuce and radishes to eat before we get our Summer holidays.

Fire Brigade.

The Fire Brigade and Firemen visited our school last Thursday. No, we did not have a fire. We were allowed use the water hoses and spray the water. We were also allowed up into the cab of the fire brigade and look at what was in there. The firemen work to protect us.

Bridges

In our Construction, which is part of Art, we have been designing bridges. Teacher says we will be great Architects and Engineers.

Letters and blending

We have been using our magnetic letters to put the alphabet together and to create three letter words which we can sound out and read. We are getting much better at our reading.

Visit to the Teddy Bear Hospital

We visited the Teddy Bear Hospital. Click on the pictures to increase the size and read about the trip.

Learning to save

We had Marion and Bob in our classroom one day each week for the past few weeks teaching us how to save.

They are Business students in GMIT and we loved when they came to our class. Bob is from China and he gave each of us some of their money. It is different to ours. They gave each of us a certificate and teacher took some photographs.

Our Snowman

We made a lovely snowman in front of our classroom last week. We used our shovels to gather the snow. We brought in little stones from home to use for his eyes and buttons. We had a carrot for his nose but we did not use it as it was too big for the little snowman. We had a cap and scarf for him too.
When we came to school the next day the snowman had nearly all melted away. We discussed in class why he melted away and we had lots of reasons. Now we are glad we still have the pictures to look at!
