The Volcano

We have heard a lot of talk about the Volcano in Iceland. Using our Interactive whiteboard we had a look at the volcano erupting and we were fascinated by it. As a result we decided we would make our own volcano.
Leah made this volcano using Papier Maché. Teacher brought in breadsoda, vinegar and red food dye. Our volcano erupted beautifully and we needed a big tray to collect the Lava!

Planting Potatoes

As part of our Nature Study we planted three potatoes in a plastic bag outside our classroom. We put a few shovels of compost in the bag. We placed the potatoes in the compost. We covered the potatoes over with more compost. We watered them and left them to grow.
We look each day to see have any shoots come up from the potatoes and we water them frequently. When the shoots come up over the soil we will cover them again with compost which will increase our crop of potatoes.

Nature walk

We went on lots of Nature walks. Here we are looking at the changes Spring has brought to nature. We are looking at the buds opening on the Ash and Horsechestnut trees.

Printing

We did some lovely printing using half of an apple. We did them in green in the outline of an apple. We think they look very nice.

Feeding the Birds

Last Thursday when we came back to school after the Christmas holidays the ground was hard with frost and it was very cold. Teacher told us that the little birds would not be able to find any worms now so we decided to put out our bird feeder. We put some nuts and water into it and then we put it on the outside of the window. We will check each day that there is food there for the birds so that they will not be hungry.

Patterns

In our Maths class we were looking at patterns. We found patterns on material, on paper, on bracelets and lots of other places. When we understood what patterns were we made our own patterns. We used links and made a chain with different coloured links creating a pattern. We also made our own bracelets using different coloured beads to create a pattern.

Recycling

We have been talking about recycling in class and we have been using our grey and green bins every day. Yesterday we went to the bottle banks and we saw the banks for the different coloured glass bottles. Teacher brought some glass bottles with her so we put them in the right banks. We had one juice tin so we put that in the bank for tins. We saw a bank for old clean clothes there too.
Back in class Leah showed us her lunch bag which was made from two recycled plastic bottles.

The Witches Walk

We had our annual Witches Walk on Friday October the 23rd. It was a very enjoyable day for all the children. Thanks to all the parents for dressing up the children and making the day so memorable for them. Thanks also for all the money you collected and donated.

Spiders

We made lovely spiders using clay and pipe-cleaners with Miss Newell. We rolled, pinched, banged and flattened the clay into a nice round flat shape. Then we put in the legs and bended them. Lastly we put on the eyes. It was a lot of work but we really enjoyed it. Have a look at us working.

Back to school

We are back to school since the first of September. There are 11 boys and 9 girls in our class now. The two new boys are Denis and Aaron. We have two Aarons in the class now. We are getting to know the new boys and we all get along very well together.
