We have been using our magnetic letters to put the alphabet together and to create three letter words which we can sound out and read. We are getting much better at our reading.
Welcome to Senior Infants! We hope you like our blog. There are 19 children in our class, 9 boys and 10 girls. We are all great friends.Check out what we have been up to lately...
Visit to the Teddy Bear Hospital

Learning to save
We had Marion and Bob in our classroom one day each week for the past few weeks teaching us how to save.
They are Business students in GMIT and we loved when they came to our class. Bob is from China and he gave each of us some of their money. It is different to ours. They gave each of us a certificate and teacher took some photographs.
Our Snowman
We made a lovely snowman in front of our classroom last week. We used our shovels to gather the snow. We brought in little stones from home to use for his eyes and buttons. We had a carrot for his nose but we did not use it as it was too big for the little snowman. We had a cap and scarf for him too.
When we came to school the next day the snowman had nearly all melted away. We discussed in class why he melted away and we had lots of reasons. Now we are glad we still have the pictures to look at!
Clay
We made some lovely pots out of clay last week. We had to roll and shape the clay carefully. We rolled it into a ball and then used our thumbs to shape it into a pot.
We left them to dry for a few days. We painted and decorated them. They looked lovely when we had them finished.
Recycling
Today we were talking about recycling in our class. We have to put different coloured bottles and jars into different coloured recycling bins. Our teacher took us down to the bottle bank and she had a bag of different coloured bottles to put into the bins. We had to guess into which bin we had to put each bottle.
Gardens
We were sowing vegetables in our gardens last week in class. We were learning to sow them in rows. We put one type of vegetable in each row and we did not mix them. It was good fun. We had lovely stickers of the vegetables.
Patterns
We are back at school and settled in to our new Senior Infants class. Last week we were talking about patterns and making patterns. We made patterns using bears, links, elephants and cubes. We also made patterns on our Interactive whiteboard where we dragged and dropped animals to create a pattern. We will search at home for something with a pattern on it and bring it in to teacher.
Picnic at the beach
We went on a picnic to the beach yesterday. It was a nice sunny morning and we had a lovely walk there. We had our picnic first at the picnic tables. We left the place clean and tidy after us. Then we went down on to the beach. We kept away from the water and we had lots of fun on the sand. We made lots of sandcastles and we used feathers as our flags. We played hopscotch and collected shells and crabs.
We washed our hands before we came home. By the time we reached our classroom we were exhausted but we all had a very enjoyable day.
